Gary Player, professional golfer, is now the spokesman at the center of a consumer marketing campaign for lens maker Advanced Medical Optics Inc. of Orange County.
Huntington Beach based Digital Studios West, Inc., was selected to produce the television spots with Player on location in Florida using 3 scripts developed by ReZoom’s agency, Device Pharm of Irvine California. The challenge, to film the entire package including exterior and interior locations in 1 day!
Time constraints were tight and with uncertain weather building in the Florida sky, efficiency and speed were paramount.
Setting up on a golf course, just outside of Miami, Gary spoke to the camera as he demonstrated his incredible swing D.P. Jeff McCoy mounted the camera system supplied by Panavision© on a Techno-Crane 50
with a remote head to get the camera out over the green for some pretty remarkable shots of the ball going into the cup. Working in 35mm film was crucial for this project because it required exceptionally crisp, clear, high-quality visuals.
Overall, he and Director, Paul Sadler, brought a filmatic aesthetic and storytelling expertise to the campaign. Device Pharm Art Director Jose Santiago, took care of making the product shots look great and ensuring that brand guidelines were met.
Sound man Chris Potter delivered a full rich track despite being confronted by Florida’s notorious locusts, and editor Richard Cooperman, handled post production back in Orange County in a session that included animation, and color correction.
Clay Wilemon, president and founder of DevicePharm Inc., praised Digital Studios West, Inc., for their creativity and professionalism
Player has experienced first hand the advantages of the ReZoom lens. Until recently he could no longer see a golf ball when it landed on the fairway, even when wearing his contact lenses.
He had a Rezoom lens implanted and he now jokes, “I can see a grasshopper winking at me.”
The campaign includes a package of TV, radio and print ads that eye surgeons can run in local media.
